A thing can be haunted. A thing is usually not haunted.

Before taking a haunted thing, say "You feel a tingling in your fingertips as you reach for it."

[Instead of taking anything, say "Your hands are full already."]

[After taking a haunted thing, say "As you take [the noun], you hear a terrible shriek."]
