Whom the Telling Changed
In this parser-based interactive fiction, the player takes the role of an ancient villager in a time of crisis whose people have gathered to hear their storyteller tell part of the epic of Gilgamesh. As the story unfolds, the player can take a side and try to sway the people’s opinion by calling out in response to parts of the tale. The fate of the village depends on the alliances the player makes, and the way he or she convinces others to interpret the storyteller’s words.
Telling was a nominee for Best Script in the 2006 GameShadow Innovation in Games Awards, a competitor at the Slamdance Guerrilla Gamemaker Competition, and a selection for the Electronic Literature Collection Volume One.
